Where can I find an example of a union contract that would be similar to what we would expect? I just want to see what it is that you can offer us. I think we need a change, I just was some kind of assurance in what you can do. We are putting our careers in your hands, I won't do that unless I know its right for me.

All I here is how great the union is for verizon and Power workers but no one ever will tell me what they have that I don't.Just don,t tell me how great things will be with the union ,show me.Looks like the union suporters want to make the same as a 20 years tech as soon as they start work.

I have a question, do you people have a goal to call and harass employees? Or maybe one or two techs have taken that upon themselves. If the latter was the case, is that illegal? I get a feeling that it is, I know I don't personally care for it and wish they'd stop calling me, if only there was some kind of action that could be taken to stop these children.
So my question to the IBEW is ... do you provide lawyers for people who wish to vote you in but campaign in such an ignorant way that they may be looking at serious legal repercussions? Or are those people held completely responsible as they took those actions upon themselves?

P.P.S.~ I have no intentions of taking any serious action on the scenario I just went through, as far as any management who reads this and may ask me, its all heresay, but if you DO call me again, anybody pertaining to the Union I will make it a VERY PUBLIC matter. There are 3 contracts that TWC has signed with unions posted around the building. Remember, the union negotiates with TWC. You can't compare how the union did with verizon lawyers or cmp lawyers, but how they do with TWC lawyers...the contracts show starting pay, and progression. These are real contracts. If you don't believe it, call the systems, and talk to a tech there.
if they are real contracts, they cover workers from other parts of the country. they have nothing to do with twc workers here in maine and also nothing to do with the ibew local here in maine. also, the contracts were negotiated and voted on by the workers that they cover. if there were provisions in those contracts that were objectionable to the employees, then they would vote no.
if twc workers were to vote in the union in maine, they would elect people to the negotiating committee from their own and would vote on whatever the final "contract" package would result.
There was a time that unions were useful. There may have been a time that in order to get a fair wage and fair hours unionizing was a good way to go. However, unions have out lived their purpose. Unions have strayed away from their original purpose. Unions no longer care about their members. Nowadays, unions are only out for themselves. Unions only care about their power and their control.
Unions are the modern form of legal social communism, restricting what members can earn and by telling them what political stance they can have. They dictate to their members what they will earn. They dictate to their members what their political views must be. Freedom of choice is no longer valid when you are in a union.
Unions only raise the cost of services and products that companies provide which in turn raises everyone's cost of living. Unions require businesses to pay employees based solely on seniority and not performance creating a socialist environment. Unions punish those that are motivated to work and reward those that are lazy. When people are paid based only on seniority, the quality of their work will falter every time because there is no longer any incentive for someone to excel in their trade. The result is always poorer quality and service. As quality in products and service declines, customers go elsewhere. As customers go elsewhere, the company goes out of business stranding the workers.
Every year union members give a portion of their hard earned money to labor unions. What do they get in return? Nothing, except medical and dental benefits. Unions take the money from their members and spend it on politics. They spend the money endorsing political ideas that may or may not reflect the values, ideas or political parties of their members. They do it without asking, polling or voting on what the members want or would like. The unions only care about advancing their power and control over their members, business and politicians.
If you feel that your employer is not giving you a fair wage, fair hours or fair working environment then go work somewhere else. Either the business will get the message as more employees leave for better paying jobs, better hours and better working environments and give better wages, better salaries and improve the environment or they will go out of business.

The Center’s Anti-Union Allies
The Center for Union Facts’ legislative agenda is strikingly similar to other anti-union groups. Berman has admitted to launching the Center to support the Secret Ballot Protection Act, sponsored by Rep. Charlie Norwood, which would outlaw the currently voluntary card check method for employers to recognize workers’ unions and has the support of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce , the National Right to Work Committee, and other anti-union organizations. Berman also divulged that the Center was formed to “wage a campaign against the Employee Free Choice Act,” bipartisan legislation that would require employers to recognize unions formed by the card check process, which anti-union organizations also strongly oppose.30
In December 2005, Grover Norquist’s Alliance for Worker Freedom hosted its regular meeting, the “Labor Reform Working Group.”31 The agenda focused on a range of union-related issues including card check and the Department of Labor’s new database on union information. Berman attended the meeting, along with representatives from the DOL, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the anti-union Associated Builders and Contractors, and the offices of Sen. Bill Frist (R-TN) and Rep. Charlie Norwood (R-GA).32
It may be surprising for some to see a government agency working with Berman. In spite of its duty to protect workers, the Bush Department of Labor (DOL) appears to be a close supporter of the Center for Union Facts and Richard Berman, raising questions about possible impropriety by agency officials. The Washington Post leaked that Lynn Gibson, a DOL public affairs employee, sent an email to all DOL staff recommending that they visit the Center’s website.33 Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) sued the DOL to disclose any contact that may have occurred between Berman and DOL staff.34 DOL has now released some documents revealing that Gibson had frequent correspondence and a meeting with Sarah Longwell of the Center,35 as well as Berman’s ties to DOL Secretary Elaine Chao. In 2004, Chao participated in a PR campaign for one of Berman’s projects, the First Jobs Institute. Chao also wrote Berman a letter thanking him for sharing the Employment Roundtable’s position against raising the minimum wage.36
Berman Plays Fast and Loose with the Facts
How can anyone become a quotable ‘expert’ on issues as diverse as obesity, alcohol-impaired driving, mercury, tobacco, and labor? Richard Berman, an expert for hire, doesn’t have to possess academic or medical credentials, nor have his facts straight, just a willingness to speak loudly and “shoot the messenger” to attack the opposition.”37 Berman and his front groups have a well-documented track record of offering dubious statistics and disputing solid science to further their industrial clients’ agendas:
Despite solid research and the position of the National Cancer Institute, Berman has claimed, “[There is a] lack of evidence that second-hand smoke causes cancer.”38
The research director for Berman’s Center for Consumer Freedom (CCF) told a reporter that government statistics confirm that “the drunk driving problem in this country has been reduced to a small hard core of repeat offenders,” yet according to a news report, the majority of arrests are first-timers.39
The Center for Union ‘Facts’? The Center for Union Facts’ website features a searchable database of the ‘facts’ it proclaims “union leaders don’t want you to know.”40

Questions Raised about Berman’s Operations and Methods
Corresponding with a dubious, selective use of facts, Berman’s methods have raised questions over the years:
Berman was linked to the ethics scandal that nearly toppled former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich. In 1993, on the same day Berman testified against tougher drunk driving regulations, he donated $25,000 to fund a college course taught by Gingrich at Kennesaw State College. Berman enclosed the check with a handwritten a note: “Newt, thanks again for the help on today's committee hearing.”41
Berman laid out his strategy to defeat public interest groups: “The fact is that [activists] drive consumer behavior on meat, alcohol, fat, sugar, tobacco and caffeine … Our offensive strategy is to shoot the messenger … [We've] got to attack their credibility as spokespersons.”42
Berman’s Center for Consumer Freedom (CCF) called the obesity epidemic a “myth.”43
A website, ActivistCash, sponsored by Berman’s CCF campaign describes the consumer groups it targets, including Mothers Against Drunk Driving, with hyperbolic language: “Despite their innocent-sounding names, many of these organizations are financial Goliaths that use junk science, intimidation tactics, and even threats of violence to push their radical agenda.”44
Berman under scrutiny for alleged Enron-like shell game. Berman’s suspect role running both the non-profit CCF and for-profit Berman & Company—which has received millions from CCF—prompted CREW to request the IRS revoke CCF’s tax-exempt, ‘non-profit’ status. CREW charged that Berman privately benefited from CCF, and that the front group had no charitable purpose.45 CREW’s request is still pending and its investigation
Facts and Frequently Asked Questions about Unionbusting
What is Unionbusting? The term unionbusting describes the planned course of action to stop workers from organizing a union or to destroy a union already in the workplace.
Who are Unionbusters? Unionbusters are professional consultants or lawyers, who may represent a legal consortium or consulting firm. These individuals or firms advertise their ability to manipulate the labor law system and specialize in advising employers on how to thwart union organizing drives or how to decertify unions. Unionbusters usually self-identify as ‘union avoidance firms,’ ‘management consultants,’ or ‘labor consultants.’
What do Unionbusters Do? Unionbusters offer legal services, advice and consultation, training seminars, workshops and materials for management and supervisors, and a variety of targeted anti-union propaganda for distribution to employees, including videos, posters, leaflets, flyers and giveaways. Unionbusters’ sophisticated advice, training and materials help an employer create a sense of dissension and division among employees during an organizing campaign and spread misinformation about the union before workers vote in a union representation election. Additionally, “consultants advise management on how to stall or prolong the bargaining process, almost indefinitely—bargaining to the point of boredom…”1
Why Haven’t I Heard of These Firms? Unionbusters operate under the radar intentionally. Unionbusters often provide material and instructions behind the scenes while the employer’s management and middle-management/supervisory staff carry out the actual communications with workers. In this way, the unionbuster does not deal directly with employees and, as a result, may avoid having to disclose financial reports about such activity to the U.S. Department of Labor. The unionbuster’s name or firm is not used or referenced in the anti-union materials distributed to employees, further masking the unionbuster’s involvement in orchestrating the anti-organizing campaign. More importantly, the anti-union company is rarely called on to divulge that it hired a unionbuster or reveal the specifics of such expenditures. Therefore, without a paper trail, unionbusters are hard to detect, underreported, and not in the public eye.
Who Uses Unionbusting Firms? 75 percent of employers facing a union organizing drive hire anti-union consultants.2
How Successful are Unionbusters? It is no coincidence that as the unionbusting industry has grown, the rate of union membership has declined. A unionbuster recently profiled in FORTUNE magazine had ‘won’ 32 of 35 organizing drives in 2003 for his clients.3 Unionbusters even go so far as advertising their rates of success. One firm, Labor Relations Institute, now boasts a money-back guarantee on its website: “If your organization purchases an LRI Guaranteed Winner Package and the union becomes certified, the Labor Relations Institute will refund the full cost of the package.”4
Seven Sophisticated Unionbuster Techniques
Supervisors as Frontline Soldiers: Supervisors, who themselves have no legally protected right to be represented by a union, are manipulated into delivering anti-union letters, speeches, and informal chats prepared by unionbusters, essentially doing the dirty work of the unionbusters and management.
One-on-One Meetings: During organizing drives, 78 percent of workers are forced to attend closed-door or isolated meetings with supervisors.5 These aren’t friendly impromptu chats, but well-planned meetings to decipher employees’ feelings about the union and persuade them against the union.
Captive Audience Meetings: So-called ‘captive audience’ meetings are held for employees during work hours to disseminate propaganda against union representation and to attempt to discredit the union. Employees are almost always required to attend, but union organizers may be intentionally disinvited. Often, the meetings are rigged so that workers who are already against the union are assigned to ask questions to sow misinformation.
Delay: Unionbusters often attempt to delay union representation elections by legal maneuvers so they have more time to implement other tactics needed to increase tension, dissension and the employer’s chance of winning the election.
Divide & Conquer: The unionbuster creates opportunities and crafts persuasive messages to make employees feel that there is a tense division among staff concerning the union election. They may go so far as to pit one group of employees against each other, based on race or ethnicity.
Letters, letters, letters: A unionbuster’s specialty is hammering out materials—be it cartoons, leaflets or management correspondence—to make the case against the union. 92 percent of companies involved in organizing drives mail anti-union materials to employees’ homes.6
Love offerings: In order to convince employees that they don't need a union, unionbusters may advise clients to provide indirect bribes, like unexpected increases in wages or benefits or ‘feel good’ measures like free food and lottery tickets.
National Right to Work
Role of National Right to Work in the Anti-Union Network
National Right to Work is the country’s oldest organization dedicated solely to destroying unions. Its network consists of four organizations that share leadership, offices, resources and staff, all with the common goal of undermining workers’ freedom of association. To carry out this mission, the National Right to Work Committee employs over 200 staff to lobby, fundraise, distribute propaganda, and interfere with workers’ union organizing efforts, and the National Right to Work Legal Defense Foundation employs nearly 50 staff for its litigation efforts.1
While the organization has doggedly pursued an anti-union agenda for a half century, its public profile has recently been eclipsed by the big-budget anti-union front group the Center for Union Facts .
Does National Right to Work have anything to do with right-to-work laws?
When anti-union ideologues lost an effort to enact a national law weakening unions, they created the National Right to Work Committee in 1955 to pass such laws at the state level. The group’s single-minded focus of doing away with unions was as unambiguous then, as it is today, however the name it shares with the very legislation it was created to pass, is purposely confusing. What is the True Agenda Behind National Right to Work?
Does National Right to Work advocate on behalf of workers?
The group claims to be a “worker advocate.”2 But the organization doesn’t concern itself with improving workers’ job conditions, benefits, or treatment. An examination of press releases issued by the National Right to Work Foundation between 2003 and 2005 reveals there was no discussion by the group of improving benefits for workers, better working conditions, or workplace dignity; and only one reference to increasing wages. There were, however, 267 negative references to unions.

If National Right to Work is really advocating for workers, why is does it refuse to disclose its donors?
Whose interests are they really fighting for? The funding trail that exists points to anti-union businesses:3
A lawsuit revealed that 84 percent of the National Right to Work Committee’s 1973 budget was funded by corporations, and other employers.4
Early known donors include:
Wofford Camp who served on a U.S. Chamber of Commerce committee and was a California grower who fought efforts by farm workers to organize unions.5
Roger Milliken, former president of Milliken & Company, who shut down one of his southern textile plants as retaliation against his employees’ vote to form a union.6
The Foundation bragged that “over 350 Presidents and Chairmen of the Board listed in Dun & Bradstreet’s Directory of Million Dollar Corporations,” were associated with it.7
Anti-union companies indirectly fund National Right to Work through foundations. The network has received major grants from the Walton Family Foundation (funded with profits from Wal-Mart), Castle Rock Foundation (funded with profits from Coors beer), and Publix Super Markets Charities.8
The group’s original leadership also suggests an anti-union agenda shaped by the interest of employers. For instance, the Committee’s first chairman of the board was Edwin Dillard, president of Old Dominion Box Company, who vehemently fought his workers’ efforts to organize his company’s plants in the South.9 Fred Hartley, the Committee’s first president, was the former Congressman who sponsored the Taft-Hartley Act amending the National Labor Relations Act to expand employers’ rights, not workers.

So, I've been thinking up some alternatives to the standard BTLS drinking game. Not that shotgunning a brew everytime Bubba says MJ isn't fun, but lets face it...you can only consume so much alcohol while working. I propose the "Bubba retirement plan game" where you put a dollar bill into a jar every time Ned says "yes". Or, how about the "BTLS sleep aid game" during the Sirius show for people that just can't sleep...every time that the topic changes to Hogan, you beat off feverishly to completion. Actually, scratch that one...Joe the Super Mark has been doing that for years and he's still awake. How about the "Dr Mark men's health game"? Every time Dr Mark says "Cialis" you give yourself a prostate check...with a zuchinni. I'll keep coming up with new games in the future, but I leave you with this one...the "BTLS check your prenup game"...everytime Bubba says "Contessa Brewer", you turn to your wife or girlfriend and tell her that you find another woman to be way hotter than she is, and you would "put her shit out in the yard"...hours of fun for the entire family!

AS THE ELECTION WEARS ON….. I am sick of Americans treating this as if it were a football game, or American Idol. It is of the highest order of importance right now who is going to run the country. Of the two with the best chance, they are both better than Bush, no doubt. There are serious questions about Obama, as well as serious questions about where McCain stands on certain issues. Once the election is over, it isn’t like going to a game where everyone goes home and goes on with their lives. Our family members and neighbors who see it worth while to serve our country deserve better. Lives are at stake here. America is not so far gone it can’t be saved. Endless war will help no one. A higher capitol gains tax will hurt the economy. There are also two candidates, Ralph Nader and Bob Barr, that deserve respect as well. Honest debate has been replaced by name calling and fear mongering. Which is why we as a nation will remain in this vicious cycle for years unless we change fundamentally how we select our leaders, and take the debate moderating power back from the two parties.

The next night we all watched a vampire movie. “30 Days of Night” I had never heard of it, but it as actually really good. We liked it so much we watched it again the next night, while eating Donna’s oatmeal chocolate chip cookies, that’s how i party like a rock star. Manson

OIL PRICES AND THE MAIN CAUSES PART 2. I keep hearing “It’s a simple supply and demand issue”. That’s not exactly true in this case. The Chinese government institutes price controls to create false gas prices in China. Then the Chinese government subsidizes the money lost by companies preventing them from passing the cost on to Chinese consumers. While U.S. oil companies are reporting record profits, Chinese companies profits are down heavily because the governement has frozen prices since last November. The Chinese do this to limit the negative effect on their economy, if they did the same as we do in America their inflation would be in double digits. The Chinese government is able to do this because of their large surplus of money in the government. The bad news is the Chinese government has the money to keep oil prices artificially low for years to come. The good news, there is no good news. This is one main reason simple “supply and demand” as the chimp in the White House put it, is a paradigm that doesn’t apply in this case.

We went to the beach on vacation last week. had a great time doing things the Manson klan likes to do, like staying up until 3:am and sleeping until noon every day. My 16 year old son had a great time fishing on his new boat. he caught 23 sharks one day, and 15 ladyfish the next. Unfortunately he left a bag of fozen shrimp under the live well for three days, and the smell was awful. Donna was full hot on the deal. Donna, and I got our minds right and went out to a little dive bar one night. We had a great time just sitting in the car and watching drunks stumble out of the bar. Then we went inside and had some drinks, and played pool. We played a couple of young guys, and Donna sunk the 8 ball for the win three times in a row, The last time she did it behind the back! The next night we all watched a vampire movie. “30 Days of Night” I had never heard of it, but it as actually really good. How much stuff does Ned steal from the studio? Bubba had Tom come in today to be the Human Pinata. Bubba got an extra six minutes of sleep by showering last night. Sheriff Grady Judd has his plate full with a serial rapist in Polk County. Is the new 3G iPhone really necessary? Bubba has been turning his cell phone off lately. Spice is afraid to turn off his phone in case Bubba tries to call him. The new BubbaRaw 1 dvd is available for preorder at some major retailers websites. Jesse Jackson is back in the news for some anti-Obama remarks.

Bubba passed out on Manson's couch after winning a game of volleyball on July 4. Manson's horses wouldn't come near Bubba. Bubba threatens to fire Spice if he goes to Ceviche for dinner. Saturday is the 12th and as far as I know their is no meeting on either date. Anyone who is serious about scheduling a meeting in Bangor or anywhere else for that matter please call Jenn Nappi or Steve Smith to set it up. We would be more than happy to meet with any of you; any time, any place.
Ok, here are my questions:
1. Can IBEW make the work load less? I don't wanna have to do over 100 pts of work a day.
2. Can the IBEW make it so the rest of my team has a schedule the benefits us?
3. Can the IBEW improve the system? IE: Get more equipment, supplies and techs?
I would rather have the company take care of the problems than have a outside group try and get it done.
